Judith Asner, MSW, BCD, Co-Chair


Judith Asner, MSW, BCD is a clinical social worker and coach. She has been an eating disorders specialist for over 25 yers. She is also an Imago Relationship Therapist who works with couples and is a graduate coach from the Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara, CA. Judith is particularly interested in bulimia nervosa. She runs groups for people with this issue, and is particularly interested in empowerment and positive thinking.

Maureen E. Lyon, Ph.D., A.B.P.P.

Maureen E. Lyon, Ph. D., A.B.P.P. is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Research Professor in Pediatrics at George Washington University Medical Center within the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D. C. Dr. Lyon holds a Diplomate in Health Psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology and is a member of the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and elected Chair of the Committee on Psychology and AIDS.

Dr. Lyon has a private practice in Alexandria, Virginia, specializing in adolescents and adults with eating disorders and other health related conditions. She also has a general practice with adolescents and adults treating depression, anxiety, and relationship problems. Dr. Lyon conducts psychological testing to identify learning disabilities or attention problems in children and adults, and her research interests and efforts focus on the study of eating disorders and supporting individuals with life-threatening illnesses.

Dr. Lyon has published work in peer-reviewed journals oneating disorders and a range of other subjects. She also conducts regional conferences, training other psychologists and professionals to work with clients with chronic illness. Dr. Lyon’s orientation is Interpersonal and Cognitive/Behavioral. With regard to pain management Dr. Lyon uses techniques such as deep muscle relaxation, visual imagery and meditation.


Stefanie Gilbert, Ph.D

Dr. Gilbert is a clinical psychologist who is licensed in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. She is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University, where she received the Psychology Department Faculty Prize. She received an M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of South Florida. She was a professor in the Psychology Department and Women's Studies Program at Howard University from 1999-2007, receiving tenure there in 2007, and the president of the Washington Society for the Study of Eating Disorders from 2000-2006. She is the author of several book chapters and numerous articles on eating disorders and body image issues. In her clinical practice in Bethesda, Maryland, and Fairfax, Virginia, she specializes in helping people who struggle with bulimia, compulsive overeating, and body image concerns.
